Double Island Point is a laid-back surf spot located on the Queensland coast. It features beautiful scenery and is known for its relatively remote access, which keeps the crowds down. You'll need a 4WD to get there, and while that can put some people off, it also means you’ll often have the waves to yourself. It's a good place for surfers looking for sessions away from more crowded beaches.
This spot is great for catching long rights around the lighthouse, and you might find some occasional lefts on the beachbreak. The optimal swell direction is from the east, with northeast and southeast swells working well too. It handles swell sizes starting at 2 feet (about 0.6 meters) and can produce quality waves over boulders and sand. From experience, surfers tend to prefer southeast winds and low to mid tide heights. It’s mostly suited for intermediate surfers, so make sure you're comfortable out there.
While the waves can be great, keep in mind that rips and the presence of sharks are factors here, as with many surf spots. The isolation might not be for everyone, but if you’re looking for a more authentic surf experience with a bit of adventure, this could be a good choice. Plus, the surrounding area often has some nice sandbars along the beach highway beside the Cooloola National Park if you’re up for exploring beyond the main point.
