Dublin Area surf guide
Surf: General: Given the right conditions, surfable waves exist on most beaches both north and south of Dublin city on occasion, including one created by the ferry, however, the further south from Dublin city, the more exposed the coast gets to the Atlantic long period swell window.
Tides: Usually high tide as more swell gets in.
Size: Knee to chest high.
Wind: W is offshore but tends to blow any swell flat. Best waves with S winds after SE gale or massive and extremely south angled big period Atlantic swell.
Swell: S, SE
Bottom: Varied from sand to rock to reef.
Paddling: Most spots are close to the beach.
Spot Rating: Wave quality is generally poor till you get further south.
Access: Varies, some access is difficult due to transit infrastructure, industry and private property.
Crowds: Crowd Factor: Small crowds if any at most spots.
Local Vibe: Very Friendly.
Environment: Industry and contamination quite high at some places close to the city.
Hazards: Tidal currents. Some shallow shorebreak. Rocks.
Season: Autumn, Winter, Spring but sometimes summer windswells from the south and east.
