Dune Rd. West surf guide

Dune Rd. West is an open beachbreak located on the western side of Dune Road. It has a series of small groins spread throughout the area. There are some public parking options available, but finding the right sandbars can be tricky given the limited beach access. This spot can be a good alternative when nearby beaches are packed with surfers.

The surf here can vary quite a bit. On good days, you can catch waves ranging from waist high to well overhead (about 1 to 2 meters). The best swell comes from the southeast, and this spot can handle swell sizes from 3 feet to 7 feet (about 1 to 2.1 meters). The waves typically break over sand, offering both right and left rides. Mid tide tends to be the most favorable, with wind coming from the north to north-northwest. Depending on the swell and current sandbar conditions, paddling can be easy in the summer but very hard in the winter months. When the sand is right, you can expect some fun sessions, but if it's not, you might struggle to find good waves.

Access to Dune Rd. West is pretty easy, and while the crowd factor is moderate, you can still share the water with a decent number of surfers. The local vibe is also moderate, meaning you won't deal with overly aggressive surfers. Just keep in mind that summer tourists can be an issue, especially if youโ€™re looking for space in the water. This spot is best during the autumn and winter months.
