El Playon surf guide

El Playon is a spot located on the way to Cuyagua. It’s known for its wedgy lefts and rights, especially at La Punta, the beach that sits furthest west. The waves here can be dumpy and are usually good for close-outs, making it a popular spot for the bodyboarding crowd, particularly between the rock jetties.

The surf at El Playon can be fun for intermediate surfers. The optimal swell direction is from the north, and it handles swell sizes starting from about 1 foot (0.3 meters) and can go up from there. You can catch left and right waves as they break over sand, which adds a nice touch to the surf experience. The best wind is from the south, and you can ride the waves during low, mid, and high tides.

Keep in mind that while it might not be the most consistent spot out there, it’s worth checking out if you're in the area. The waves can provide some variety, and it’s a good place to practice your skills. It’s always a good idea to check the conditions before heading out to make the most of your session.
