Escolleras surf guide

Escolleras is located at Playa del Palmar. This surf spot benefits from currents that run along the marina, which can occasionally create a tubular right wave. While it can get crowded, especially with bodyboarders, there are still some less busy peaks further down the beach.

The optimal swell direction for Escolleras is from the west, with swells coming in from the south and west. It handles swell sizes starting from around 2 feet (about 0.6 meters). The waves break over sand and can be a mix of reef breaks. Most waves tend to roll in as rights, making it a decent spot for surfers looking for that kind of wave. The best wind direction is from the northeast, and the surf works well at all tide heights: low, mid, and high. This spot is better suited for intermediate surfers, especially those who enjoy a wedging sucky take-off.

When you're out there, expect to share the waves with bodyboarders, as they really like this spot. If you're looking for a quieter session, try heading further down the beach where you can find some more empty peaks. Just keep in mind that it can get busy, so be prepared for some company.
