More about Ferrel surfspot

Sand bars shift all the time and any kind of N wind makes a mess of it. Somewhere along its length you will find a decent wave on small swells no matter what the tide is doing.

General: A wall of crumbly, red sandstone cliffs looks out over this huge expanse of golden sand that stretches from Baleal northeast to the Obidos Lagoon. One of the highlights is Almagreira, home to some consistent banks that work through the tides. Picks up loads of swell so super consistent, but easily blown out. No facilities here - access via piste roads, can be tricky after heavy rains. Tides: All tides - beach can disappear at high. Size: Waist to head high. Wind: S, SE Swell: N, NW, W Bottom: Sand Paddling: Ok but can get heavy when size picks up. Spot Rating: Long stretch of consistent beach break that can produce some fun, occasionally hollow banks.

Good for all abilities, remote so take care.

Accessed via rough piste roads, parking on cliff top, don't leave valuables in the car. Cliff access prone to erosion.

A real swell catcher that works all year but best September to November.

Crowd Factor: If busy, walk up beach as there are many peaks to chose from. Local Vibe: OK, but this stretch used to be mostly locals and is now getting busy, so humility and respect will serve you well.

Another super consistent beach that stretches for miles to the north of town.

OK

Heavy and rippy when big.
