Forte surf guide

Forte is a surf spot located in Cabo Frio, known as the ‘cold cape’. It's situated near a historic fort built in 1616, and although it's quite urban, it draws a fair amount of surfers looking for a ride. You might want to prepare for some competitive crowds, especially when those southeast swells hit. But, if you’re willing to explore, there are generally empty waves to be found down the beach at Foguete and Pontal. There's also a left reef break off the island, which can be an interesting option.

The surf at Forte is accessible for beginners and can handle swell sizes from about 1 ft (0.3 m) up. The optimal swell direction is east, but it can also work with northeast and south swells. Waves break over sand, predominantly left-handed, which is great for those just starting out or looking to improve their skills. For the best experience, aim for northeast winds and try to surf during low, mid, or high tide as these conditions suit the spot well.

If you’re planning to visit, keep in mind that parking can come with a fee. There are options in town or a larger beach parking lot at Pontal, especially busy during the summer months. Make sure you’re ready to enjoy a day at the beach!
