Galinhas is a surf spot located a short 10-minute paddle from the Galinhas harbor. It's known for its shallow, outside reef, which can deliver good waves on the right day. The area is a popular tourist destination, and although it's busy with visitors, you can find some less crowded surf options nearby.
When it comes to the surf here, it works best with a southeast swell, but you can also catch waves with easterly and southerly swells. The spot can handle swell sizes around 3 feet (approximately 0.9 meters) and offers both right-handers and the occasional left. The waves break over an uneven reef and sand, providing a mix of beach breaks that can get hollow at times. The best wind for surfing is from the west, and you're looking for mid-tide to really make the most of it. It's a solid spot for intermediate surfers who want to challenge themselves a bit.
If you're feeling adventurous, check out the beach breaks in town at Borete. They are usually fairly empty, giving you a chance to enjoy some waves without the crowds. Just remember, even though Galinhas is a well-known spot, it can get busy, so be ready to share the waves and have fun!
