Hayle Rivermouth surf guide

Hayle Rivermouth is a surf spot located in Cornwall that offers a mix of experiences for surfers. This spot boasts a big, sheltered area with shifting sands, which allows for varying surf conditions. It can throw some fun waves your way, but don’t be surprised if it turns into a fickle spot, where conditions can change quickly. Expect the tides to drop out and push in rapidly, transforming the surf from decent peaks to close-outs in no time.

The best surf here works with swells coming from the NW and big SW, producing waves ranging from about 0.6 meters (2 feet) up to 2.4 meters (8 feet). The waves tend to break over sand, predominantly offering right-hand waves. The ideal wind direction is from the south, and the best tide height tends to be around low to mid. Keep in mind, this spot is better suited for intermediate surfers. You might find it crowded when conditions are right, so be prepared to share the lineup when it’s pumping.

For access, there’s pay parking available at Bluff Inn, but be warned that it can be a bit rippy and have some currents around the rivermouth area. The spot works best during the winter months, specifically from December to February, making it a popular choice during that season. You can use various board types here, from shortboards to fish, depending on your preference and the conditions.
