Huahua surf guide

Huahua is a surf spot located at the rivermouth, known for its unique wave conditions. It's not a frequent choice for most surfers, which helps keep it a bit less crowded. This spot is really best suited for intermediate surfers, so if you're just starting out, you might want to check out El Zapote Uno Beach a little further north for an easier ride.

The waves here can pack a punch, with optimal swell coming from the SouthWest. You can expect some fun barrels breaking over both sandy and uneven reef, with sizes that handle around 2 ft (0.6 m) up to decent levels. The lefts will really start to shine on sizeable South swells, while the rights can be a bit sectiony, especially with NorthWest swells. It’s important to hit this spot at low to mid tide for the best conditions, although some waves do hold up well at high tide too. The preferred wind direction is from the NorthEast, which helps to clean up the surf.

Since Huahua is not super popular, you'll often find it less crowded, making it easier to find your own space. Just keep in mind that the waves can get hollow and shallow quickly, especially around the middle of the rivermouth, so be aware of the tricky spots. If you're up for a challenge and you're comfortable on your board, Huahua can definitely deliver some great rides!
