Il Reef is located at the mouth of the Naro River, just a few kilometers east of Sciacca in the San Leone village area. This surf spot offers surfers a unique environment, staying mostly uncrowded even when the waves are firing. It’s a good place to escape the busier local beaches and enjoy some time in the water.
The surf here works best with a big Southeast swell, producing both right and left-hand waves over an uneven reef bottom. It handles swell sizes starting from around 2ft (0.6m) and can work with south and southeast swells. The waves typically form at low, mid, and high tide—making it pretty versatile. It's important to note that this spot is better suited for intermediate surfers who are comfortable with the conditions. Preferable wind direction is also southeast, which can help clean up the waves.
While you’re out at Il Reef, there are plenty of other surf spots a bit further east, near the local marina. This means you can explore multiple breaks in the area if you’re looking for a change of scenery or surf conditions.
