Surf: Between Noirmoutier and St Jean de Monts, the shallow continental shelf filters even the most powerful swell, but this island benefits from deeper water and a wide swell window. Check between Plage des Vieilles on the south side and la Pulante to the north. Needs a strong swell to get going – often flat in summer. Access: Several breaks including Plage des Vieilles and la Pulante Environment: The chances of seeing a crowd here are remote.
