Jongensfontein is located just to the west of Mossel Bay and is known as a small SE swell reef break. Itβs a handy spot to hit when things are a bit small at Stillbay. This surf location works best with southeast swells, while southwest swells and high tides don't really do it any favors. Don't expect epic waves all the time; it can often be below average.
The waves at Jongensfontein break over an uneven reef and sand, mainly offering right-handers. It can handle swell sizes around 2ft (0.6 meters) and is best surfed at low to mid tide. When the conditions are right, you might get some decent rides with a few sucky, hollow sections. The ideal wind direction is northwest, so keep that in mind when planning your session. It's definitely more suited for intermediate surfers looking to sharpen their skills.
While there are waves pretty much all the time, they can often be inconsistent and not always worth the trip. That said, if you're in the area and the swell is right, Jongensfontein can be a fun little spot to check out.
