More about K58/La Fonda surfspot

Busy K58/La Fonda is where the best-shaped beachbreak in the area delivers very consistent barrelling lefts and rights, especially near the rivermouth. At size, paddling out can be punishing.

General: A rare left-hander in an area with lots of rights, La Fonda is a river mouth/point a short drive south of Rosarito. One of Baja Norte's better known and more heavily trafficked spots, La Fonda is popular with the ex-pat crowd and easily accessed from San Diego, which keeps the lineup relatively busy. The beach break adjacent to the left point provides hollow, rippable peaks to help relieve crowd pressure and provide a bit of variety. Tides: Low to mid. Size: Chest-high to double overhead. Wind: Easterly Swell: SW, W Bottom: River mouth with sand and rocks. Paddling: Paddle out can be a workout on larger swells. Spot Rating: A quality, consistent point/river mouth that provides long, rippable lefts.

One of the more demanding waves in the area, and best for experienced surfers.

Pay for parking at the campsite.

Takes swells from S to WNW, but summer and autumn southerlies are best.

Crowd Factor: Gets busy with day-trippers from San Diego, especially on the weekends. Local Vibe: There's a solid contingent of local surfers and expats, but the localism is pretty minor.

The crowded Alisitos campsite offers a good party scene.

Pretty clean, except on the rare instances that there's rain or a nearby sewage spill.

Rocks, rips, petty theft.
