Kastro surf guide
Kastro is an exposed beachbreak located along the beautiful coastline, featuring a rivermouth and a rocky headland. It's one of the many large beaches in the area that can be tricky to access, often requiring a 4WD for the best access to less crowded surf spots. The vibe here is laid-back, and it’s known for serving up decent waves when the conditions are right.
The surf at Kastro works best with a north-east swell, but it can handle swells coming from the north as well. Wave sizes can start around 1 ft (0.3 m) and go up from there. The beach offers both left and right breaks over sand, making it a versatile option for surfers. Beginners will find this spot accessible, especially during low to mid and high tides when the waves are easier to manage. Wind from the south-west is ideal to keep the conditions clean.
Keep in mind that while Kastro can be great for a range of surfers, it might not always deliver epic days. Like many spots, it has its good waves and its not-so-good days. So it’s worth checking the forecast before heading out. Enjoy your time surfing!
