Kolekole surf guide
Surf: General: The wave, a right/left dumping peak, is shaped in part by the Kolekole Stream, which is fed by the famous Akaka Falls. The bottom below the wave is littered with boulders. Both the right and the left are best for bodyboarding or bodysurfing, and not so much for surfing, though this spot does have its moments.
Tides: Medium tides
Size: Head high-2X overhead
Wind: Calm or offshore from a westerly direction. South wind is side-offshore.
Swell: Anything from the N to SE
Bottom: Rock, reef
Paddling: Short paddle. Currents can get bad at times.
Spot Rating: Great when the rare solid NE swell meets offshore Kona winds from the SW.
Access: Easy, but the road down to the beach park is steep.
Crowds: Crowd Factor: Can be crowded, but more often it is not.
Local Vibe: Humility and respect appreciated.
Environment: Rivermouth flows out right here, so quality decreases depending on amount of rain, but usually OK.
Hazards: Reef, large boulders, water quality after heavy rain.
Season: Winter, but breaks year-round. Hurricane swells can get really good here.
