More about La Ticla surfspot

La Ticla is visible from the Mex 200 and many stop to ride this epic wave. When it’s small it’s a good, fun beachbreak, but with a bit of S-SW swell, La Ticla becomes an awesome rivermouth left. The rights can be almost as good in W-NW and there is space to handle a crowd, especially if you walk north or south of the main peak. Beginners should head south to Ixtapilla for easier walls.

General: The mouth of the Ostula River is a reliable wave machine. While La Ticla is open to swell from the S to NW, it will produce its best work in the spring, summer and fall, when proper S swells are pouring in. The wave itself is an A-frame that breaks over sand and cobbles and provides long walls and feathering barrels. Due to its consistency, La Ticla has become a hot spot in this region of mainland, thus it can become crowded when a swell is running. Tides: All tides. Size: Waist high to double overhead Wind: NE Swell: S, SW, W Bottom: Sand, Rock, Reef. Paddling: Medium to heavy after long rides. Spot Rating: As fun as it gets when there's swell.

Just look for signs off of Mex 200.

March-November

Crowd Factor: Can be heavy at certain times in the year. Local Vibe: Only when it's crowded; generally mellow.

Hazards are many including rips, crowds on good days, higher shark factor and a real problem with banditos and federales extorting money from the campers at gunpoint, yet the surfers keep coming to ride this Mexican gem.

Use caution after heavy rains.

Rocks, urchins.
