Overview
Lighthouse sits on Jamaica's Palisadoes peninsula, right below the Plump Point Lighthouse that's clearly visible as flights drop into Kingston Airport. It's one of the south coast's more reliable setups and a welcome sight for anyone straight off the plane. From the air it reads like a long, soft left point, but the waves worth chasing here are the short, barrelling rights.
When It Works
The reef breaks over a rock ledge and picks up swell from east to south (E-S), with southeast (SE) the direction that lines it up best. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft. Both lefts and rights peel off the ledge, though it's the rights the regulars come for. Consistency is moderate, so it won't be on every day, but it turns up often enough to count on.
Wind and Tide
Look for northwest (NW) offshore wind to clean it up. The reef can work through low, mid, and high tide, with a rising tide generally the better call.
Local Tips
This one suits intermediate surfers. Expect a busy lineup when it's working, since it's a spot the regular crowd keeps coming back to.
