Lighthouse is known as Kingston's local surf spot. It's a shallow reef that offers a mix of waves for surfers looking to have a go. While it's a decent place to surf, it can be hit-or-miss, depending on the swell conditions. The vibe here is generally mellow, and you can expect not too many crowds, which is a plus for your session.
The wave serves up a short, hollow, right that can really deliver barrels when the conditions are just right. It's considered one of the better right-handers on the island. The left has been compared to the Zoo, working well with the right swell angles. Lighthouse handles swells from 1.2 meters to 2.4 meters (4 feet to 8 feet), breaking over a reef and providing both left and right waves. The waves work best with east-southeast to southeast swells and prefer wind from the northwest. Tides can vary, but low to mid and mid to high tides are generally favorable.
Access is easy; you can park right by the spot. While paddling out is usually straightforward, keep in mind it can get a bit challenging on hurricane swells. It's more suited to intermediate and expert surfers, so consider your skill level when planning your trip. The surf season runs from November to March and again in August to September, making these months prime time for catching some waves at Lighthouse.
