Miller's Rights is located in Tarimbang, Sumba, and it’s about a 3-hour drive from Waingapu. This spot is popular among surfers, and you’ll often see a crowd in the lineup, especially from May to September. The wave here is long enough to accommodate multiple surfers, which helps with the crowd situation. Early mornings and the wet season generally bring cleaner conditions, though the waves can get a bit funky with southeast trade winds.
This surf spot handles swells from the south and west, ideally breaking over dead coral. The optimal swell direction is southwest, and it can manage swell sizes starting from around 2 feet (0.6 meters). Miller's Rights features right-hand reef waves that are great for intermediate surfers. The best time to catch a wave here is during low, mid, or high tide, with favorable winds coming from the north.
Getting to Miller's Rights requires a bit of effort, as it’s tucked away in a stunning horseshoe bay. After arriving at Marthens Homestay, expect a further 15-minute walk or a 20-minute paddle to reach the surf. It's worth the trek for a good session in these unique and enjoyable waves.
