Mzimpuni is a surf spot located further north, featuring a large bay that offers some decent waves. It’s a bit off the beaten path, so expect a bit of a journey to get there. You can either take a tough 4X4 track or hike about 4 kilometers from Mbotyi to reach the spot. The vibe here is pretty chilled, perfect for those looking to escape the crowds.
This place works best with a south swell, and you’ll find a decent right-hand point break that really comes alive with some solid S-SE swell. When the conditions are right, you can catch some walled-up sliders that break over rock ledges and sand. The waves typically handle sizes around 4 feet (about 1.2 meters) which makes it great for intermediate surfers. If the northwest winds are blowing and the tide is low, mid, or high, you'll be in for a fun session.
During your visit, keep in mind that Mzimpuni can provide some nice waves, but it’s not a guarantee every day. The water is usually clean and nice, and due to the spot's remote nature, you might find yourself surfing with fewer people around. It’s a great spot to enjoy some quality surf time if you’re up for the trek.
