North Channel in Kenya is a surf spot located past the Nyali bridge, just outside the shallow reef often referred to as Leven Reef. This area offers a blend of accessibility and fun waves, making it a decent choice for surfers looking to catch some rides in a less crowded environment compared to other spots in the region. The beach is also near the Mamba Crocodile Village and Marineland Snake Park if you’re interested in checking out local attractions.
The waves here mostly break to the left and work well with an east swell direction, particularly from the NorthEast and SouthEast. When you hit the right conditions, you can find swells from 0.6 meters (2 ft) up to a comfortable range for surfing. The break occurs over dead coral, which gives it a unique texture. It’s usually best to surf when the tide is low, mid, or high, but keep an eye on the wind — northwesterly winds will give you the best experience. This spot suits intermediate surfers best since the conditions can be a bit tricky at times.
If you're into kitesurfing, the area also has a natural lagoon 2 km offshore that's perfect for that sport, especially with Prosurf Kite. So, whether you're surfing or kiting, North Channel offers a versatile spot for a day on the water.
