More about Pambula Rivermouth surfspot

The righthander at the Pambula Rivermouth is an east coast classic and high up the global wave charts, but works so rarely these days that legend may be more descriptive. The sandbar needs the river to be in flood conditions and more importantly, the rights require a huge NE swell to penetrate the bay and start spinning down the long sandbar. Speed is king as the barrel is fast and furious, leaving no time for turns. Low tide only adds to the fickleness and SW is offshore, more likely in winter S swell season. Fortunately, the beachbreaks just north of the rocky point get really good and are consistent, with good barrels on bigger swells.

The rivermouth scores 1 for consistency and about 8 for crowds. It's also potentially sharky around the rivermouth.
