Saltwater is a surf spot located in a picturesque bay within Ben Boyd National Park. It's known for its classical righthand point setup, but don't expect it to be super consistent. This spot needs a solid Southeast swell to really make the ride worthwhile, and it can be a bit hit or miss on smaller days.
The surf here is best when the swell comes from the Southeast, but you can also catch some action with swells from the East or South. It handles swell sizes around 4ft (about 1.2 meters) pretty well. When the conditions are right, you'll experience some fun waves that start with a vertical roll-in and lead into a thick wall, with a barrel section in the middle and an open face before the waves collapse at the beachbreak. Best times to surf are during low, mid, or high tide, with a preference for winds coming from the Southwest. This spot is fairly suitable for intermediate surfers looking to enjoy a mix of fun and challenge.
Be aware that Saltwater can get crowded, especially when the surf is pumping. If you’re planning to stay longer, camping permits are available in the area. Keep your eyes peeled for sharp rocks and be cautious of the locals; waiting your turn in the lineup is definitely a good idea.
