Pelican Beach surf guide

Pelican Beach is a long, wide-open beach located along the Central Coast. It’s known for being a reliable surf spot, especially when other areas are lacking in swell. The beach is spacious, which helps to spread out the crowd, and it offers plenty of peaks for surfers. Additionally, further down the beach toward The Entrance, you can find more decent banks that are worth checking out.

This beach works year-round and is particularly good when there’s a small northeast swell. It can handle swell sizes starting from 1ft (about 0.3m) and is suitable for surfers of all abilities, including beginners. The optimal swell direction is northeast, but it can also handle southeast swells. Waves typically break over sand and can go both left and right. The best time to surf here is during low, mid, or high tide, and the ideal wind direction is from the northwest.

Keep in mind that Pelican Beach can get pretty crowded, especially during peak times, so it's a good idea to arrive early if you want to snag a good spot. The car park accommodates a lot of vehicles, making access convenient, but it’s best to manage your expectations when it comes to space in the water.
