More about Pikinini surfspot

Skirting around the town and heading up to the exposed Mongol Point is a shallow layer of reef known as Pikinini. Consistently rideable in shorter sections, it shows true class when a moderate WNW swell links up the speed runs into one, long racy barrel. All tides are doable, but high doesn’t give any more tolerance over the coral and getting caught behind will require booties to escape a pounding. Usually smaller and less fraught closer to Kavieng harbour.

All the waves in Kavieng are classified as rarely crowded, because there is a maximum of 20 foreign surfers quota system in place for the whole region, spread over 9 different surfing spots.
