Playa Copey is located about 7 km (4 mi) before Carúpano, and it's known for its righthand point break along with a few other peaks. This spot has hosted national surfing championships, making it a known place in the local surf scene. It's a decent spot for surfers looking to catch some waves, especially if you’re in the area and want to give it a go.
The optimal swell direction here is from the Northeast, although you can also find workable conditions with swells coming from the East. Playa Copey can handle swell sizes starting at around 2 ft (0.6 m) and has waves that break over sand. You'll be able to ride both left and right waves, which is great for surfers at different skill levels. For the best conditions, try to catch it with a Southwest wind, and it works well during low, mid, or high tides. This spot is beginner-friendly, so if you’re just starting out, you should feel comfortable here.
Since Playa Copey features a variety of waves, it’s a good idea to keep an eye on the swell forecast and tide charts before heading out. As always, it's best to check local conditions on the day you plan to surf, as the environment can change frequently.
