Playas del Este is a set of long sandy beaches located near the eastern part of the coast. It's generally a lot quieter than the more popular La Setenta, making it a nice option when that spot gets a bit too wild. While it gathers less swell overall, it's still worth a look if the conditions at La Setenta aren't great.
The surf here is pretty variable, often depending on the day and the sandbar formations. It can handle swell sizes starting at 1 ft (about 0.3 meters), which is nice for beginners. The waves primarily break over sand and come in beach breaks that can roll left or right. The optimal swell direction is from the NorthEast, but it can also work with NorthWest swells. While you're out there, you’ll find that it’s best to go when the wind is blowing from the SouthEast and during low, mid, or high tide.
Keep in mind that strong currents can be a factor, so it's important to stay aware of your surroundings while you're surfing. Despite this, Playas del Este provides a good opportunity for beginners looking to catch some manageable waves away from the crowds. Just check conditions before heading out, and you might find a nice little session waiting for you.
