Ponte Di Ferro is a surf spot located near Praia a Mare, easily recognized by the railway bridge that stretches over the beach. This place attracts surfers looking for some less crowded waves, making it a decent option if you're in the area. To access Ponte Di Ferro, take the Salerno – Reggio Calabria highway and exit at Lagonegro, then follow the SS 18 to Praia a Mare.
The surf here really gets going with a big W or SW swell, and you'll find that it's best with waves coming from the Northwest. You'll see both left and right breaking waves over a sandy bottom, which can handle swell sizes from about 2ft (0.6m) and up. The wind coming from the Northwest is preferable, and the spot can work well at low, mid, and high tide. Just keep in mind that the conditions can be a bit challenging, especially when getting in and out of the water.
While it's not the most famous surf spot around, Ponte Di Ferro offers a chance to catch some waves without the crowds. Make sure to check the swell and wind forecast to find the best sessions. And always be aware of the strong currents when you’re out there.
