Praia Branca surf guide

Praia Branca is a well-known surf spot that regularly attracts surfers looking for good waves. This beach is situated along a scenic coastline and can get quite busy, especially during weekends. If you want a better chance to catch some waves without too much competition, aim for mid-week sessions around midday when the crowd is usually thinner.

The waves here work best with E-SSE swells, and the optimal swell direction is from the south. You can expect the north corner to have bigger waves that create some punchy walls on the inside, while the south end offers some protection and can yield longer right-hand rides. The beach break allows for both left and right waves and is best suited for intermediate surfers. The surf can handle sizes around 3 ft (about 0.9 meters), but be prepared for it to be hit-or-miss, as conditions may change based on the sand and the day’s mood.

When it comes to wind, a northwest breeze tends to work best, and you can catch good waves at low, mid, or high tides. Just keep in mind, the spot can get pretty crowded, so if you find yourself there during busier times, make sure to be mindful of your fellow surfers and try to pick your spot wisely.
