Praia de Závora is a beachbreak of easy peaks that break over sand and outcrops of coral reef, peeling both left and right. It's a growing dive spot and a much quieter, more chilled-out alternative to Tofo.
When It Works
The peaks pull in swell from northeast through east-southeast to south, with southeast (SE) the best direction. It's usable from 0.6 m / 2 ft to 2.4 m / 8 ft and holds moderately consistent surf.
Wind and Tide
Look for southwest (SW) offshore wind. The jutting reef and point also give some shelter from south and southwest winds. It works on low and mid tide, with a rising tide the better call.
Local Tips
With easy peaks over sand, this is a friendly spot for beginners, and the lineup stays fairly quiet.
Access
There's accommodation right on the beach. Further north, Guinjata Bay is worth a look too, with a resort fronting a right-hand point and protected peaks in the lee of the headland.
