Punta Arenas surf guide

Punta Arenas is a long sand point located in a nice area, perfect for surfers looking for a place to chill. The surf can be pretty inconsistent, mainly needing a good South swell or local storm swell from the North to really get the waves going. When it's flat, the surrounding scenery can still make for a decent day of relaxation, but don't expect much action all the time.

The spot works best with a NorthEast optimal swell direction, handling swell sizes starting at around 2 ft (0.6 m). You can catch both left-breaking waves, and depending on the swell direction, it may pick up some decent action from the North or SouthEast. The waves break over sand, which makes it beginner-friendly, and the best time to surf is at low, mid, or high tide. A NorthWest wind is preferable if you're looking for cleaner conditions.

If you're heading to Punta Arenas, just be prepared for some long lulls in between good swell days. It's a great spot for beginners to practice, but once you get used to it, you might find yourself waiting for a decent swell to enjoy the water fully. Camping nearby can be a good option, but keep your expectations in check regarding consistent surf.
