Renaca surf guide

Renaca is a popular surf spot located on the coast, well-known for its beachbreak waves. The beach stretches along the coastline with varying conditions depending on the time of year and weather patterns. The northern end features a big parking lot for easy access, making it convenient for surfers looking to hit the waves. During the summer months (December-February), the crowd can get pretty dense, especially on weekends, with a mix of surfers from aggressive rippers to laid-back longboarders.

The surf here can be quite variable. When the swell is on, you can expect peaky A-frame waves that offer a couple of nice moves and a chance for some brief shacks before closing out. It handles swells primarily from the West and SouthWest, but also NorthWest and NorthNorthWest directions, with sizes ranging from about 0.6 to 1.2 meters (2 to 4 feet). The waves can break both left and right over sand, making it suitable for various skill levels including beginners, intermediates, and experts. The best conditions usually come with low to mid tides, and when the wind comes from the East or Northeast, it’s often favorable.

Be mindful of the rips, especially during proper swells, as they can pose a challenge. The environment is decent but may face issues when the rain hits, occasionally making the area a bit dirty. Despite the crowd factor, Renaca can get really good when conditions align, so keep an eye on the surf reports!
