Rucos surf guide

Rucos is a surf spot that's a bit off the beaten path, located just north of Mazatlan. It features a long, sandy beach with some lush vegetation nearby, creating a nice vibe. It's not as crowded as some other local spots, which makes it a decent option if you want to escape the busyness. Just keep in mind that when the wind kicks up, this place can get blown out really fast.

The waves at Rucos are generally fun, with sizes ranging from waist high to about 8 feet (2.4 meters). You’ll find both left and right peaks, depending on the swell direction, which can come from the South, South-Southwest, or even the Southwest. The beach break tends to handle these swells well, but it works best with low to mid tides. If you’re a beginner or an intermediate surfer, you might find this spot suitable, though expert surfers can enjoy it as well. Just watch for chop when the wind switches to the south. The preferred wind directions are from the North and Northeast, which can help keep the waves clean.

Access depends a bit on the weather, and you’ll need a proper vehicle—especially after heavy rains, as conditions can affect the roads. The local vibe is pretty laid-back, but be aware that locals can be protective of their spot. Overall, Rucos can offer some decent waves if you hit it right, but don’t expect it to be consistent every day.
