Sabang surf guide

Sabang, located on Pulau Weh, is often more famous for its diving opportunities than its surf. While diving enthusiasts flock here to see whale sharks and turtles, surfers will find some beach breaks with fairly onshore mushy waves. It’s a spot that won’t blow your mind, but if you’re around, it’s worth a look.

The surf here is mostly workable with northeast and north swells. You can catch waves at sizes starting from around 1ft (0.3m), primarily over sand. The waves usually break both left and right, which is nice for those who prefer variety. If conditions are right, the preferred wind from the southwest and tide levels that can be low, mid, or high will set you up for a decent session. It’s pretty beginner-friendly, so if you’re just starting out, you’ll be in a good place.

Since Sabang is more of a laid-back surf spot, it doesn’t get crowded. This means you can enjoy your time in the water without dealing with too many people. If you’re looking for the perfect place to practice your skills or just want a chill day at the beach, Sabang can be a decent choice.
