Salybia surf guide

Salybia is the only real barrier reef break on the island, located just a short walk from the Toco lighthouse. It's a pretty unique spot and known for its decent surf conditions. You'll find it to be a bit of a trek to get to the outer reef where the surf really picks up, but if you’re keen on some quality waves, it might be worth the effort.

The best time to hit Salybia is during the winter months when the N to NE swells come in. The waves here can get hollow and section nicely, breaking both left and right. It works well at low to mid tide, and you can expect surfable sizes starting from around 3 feet (0.9 meters). The outer reef can get a bit uneven, so keep that in mind. It’s mainly suitable for intermediates, so make sure you’re comfortable on your board before paddling out. When the wind blows from the south, the surfing conditions improve significantly.

This spot is pretty consistent thanks to its good swell exposure, which means you can rely on it to deliver decent waves regularly. Just be prepared for some crowds, especially with other intermediate surfers around. It’s a popular place, so it might get busy during peak times.
