Solis Grande surf guide
Surf: Montevideo gets some brown-water waves inside the wide mouth of the Rio de la Plata and big stormy swells can produce occasional waves at numerous spots like Arroyo Pando, St Lucia del Este, Cuchilla Alta and the long, ever-shifting rivermouth peaks at Solis Grande. They all need strong, long-period SE-SW swells and get city crowds.
Directions: Zona Canelones
Environment: Rio de la Plata is the widest river in the world and separates Argentina from Uruguay. It is almost 200km (120mi) wide at the point where it joins the Atlantic in Punta del Este. Solis has its own rivermouth depositing dubious quality water into the already polluted River Plate.
