Somo surf guide

Somo is a popular surf spot located near the city of Santander. It features a long beach backed by dunes, stretching to join Loredo, which creates a massive area for surfers to enjoy. The surf scene is vibrant, with a beachfront car park making access easy. However, it can get quite busy during the summer months when everyone is looking to catch some waves.

The surf here is consistent, working at all tides and is best when the swell is between 1 to 2 meters (3 to 6 ft). It generally handles swell sizes from 1 to 2 meters (3 to 6 ft) quite well, with the optimal swell direction coming from the Northwest. You can expect mostly beach breaks with left and right waves, making it suitable for intermediate surfers. The wind coming from the south and southeast is preferable, and the waves can be super fun with well-defined banks, especially during the autumn season when the conditions are often at their best.

Keep in mind that while it’s a great spot, there can be powerful waves and strong rips when the size picks up, so always stay aware. It's a nice place to enjoy a day of surfing, with plenty of room to spread out even when it gets crowded. A good variety of boards suit this spot, such as shortboards, funboards, fish, longboards, and even bodyboards.
