Sugar Shack needs a strong NE wind to start supplying average peaks, similar to 2nd Street. The main difference between these two onshore spots is the tide, which makes Sugar Shack a mid to high spot. Steeper outside, it fattens out before hitting the suckier inside. Rarely breaks, rarely crowded, and rarely any good!
General: Around the north side of Tybee island is a sand point setup that works well on more solid ENE/NE windswells. Go to the big anchor and turn off the street, left. Follow it around to the Sugar Shack restaurant and follow the walkway to the beach. Mid to high tide works best. Tides: mid to high Size: knee-head high Wind: W Swell: NE, E, SE Bottom: sand Paddling: Hard NE and SW winds can produce strong currents, but generally pretty mellow. Spot Rating: Can offer a fun little wave on its day, but overall not a surf destination.
Beginner to advanced
Easy access, though parking may be a problem in the summer months. Bring change for meters.
