More about The Bowl surfspot
General: The Bowl exists on the east end of Ponquogue Beach, courtesy of a river jetty. Some will say it's perfect; some will say it sucks. But when a decent S swell shows its teeth, there will be no naysayers. In fact, the largest S swells turn The Bowl into one of the few big-wave spots in all of New York. While The Bowl is a go-to spot when everywhere else is closing out, it is also a notch above when everywhere else is pretty good. But this is all rare: for about 360-some days a year, The Bowl is the quietest thing in this sleepy town. Tides: Mid Size: Waist high-well overhead Wind: NW to NNW Swell: SSE Bottom: Sand Paddling: Doable, but can be tough on bigger swells. Spot Rating: Gets fun on the right swell.
