The Groynes is a laid-back surf spot that was originally built to prevent erosion around the large harbour. These groynes have created some nice sandbars that are pretty good for surfing. It's a spot that can cater to surfers of all abilities, making it a popular choice for both beginners and more experienced riders.
The swell here works best with Southeast and takes on swells coming from the East and South. It can handle smaller swells starting from about 1 ft (0.3 meters) and breaks over sand, which is ideal for those just starting out. You’ll find mostly longer lefts, but there are also some right-breaking waves mixed in. The best wind direction is from the North, and you can surf at various tide heights—low, mid, or high—making it pretty versatile.
Watch out for some scattered rocks in the water, as they can be a bit of an obstacle. Overall, it's a decent spot to hit the waves and improve your skills, especially if you're new to surfing or just looking for a fun session.
