The Hook - Sharks Cove surf guide

The Hook - Sharks Cove is a popular surf spot tucked away from the main area of Pleasure Point. It's a classic spot known for its fast, hollow right-hand waves. The Hook can offer some fun sessions, especially with the right swell conditions, but it can be inconsistent and tends to favor more experienced surfers, particularly on bigger days when the swell hits. Accessing the beach is pretty easy, with steps leading down the sandstone bluffs.

This spot is best surfed on lower to medium tides, and really shines with south swells ranging from around 3 to 6 feet (about 1 to 2 meters) overhead. The waves break over an uneven reef and some sand, with right-hand point waves being the main feature. If you're paddling out, itโ€™s manageable, and it's a good place for shortboards, funboards, fish, and even longboards. Just a heads up, the wind direction is preferable from the north, and you might find it really enjoyable in the spring, summer, and autumn months.

While it can get crowded, that just comes with the territory of a popular spot like this. There can be a mix of surfers, including plenty of longboarders, so be mindful of them. Hazards include sharp rocks and kelp, so keep your eyes open while out there. Overall, The Hook - Sharks Cove has its ups and downs, but with the right conditions, it can turn out to be a fun spot to ride some waves.
