More about The Wedge surfspot
Known as “The Wedge” this lefthander breaks off the south inlet jetty. Rides of 100 yards (90m) and more are common. Unlike most other local breaks, high tide is required, and a NW wind is still offshore. Half a mile south are outside shoals, but you’ll need a boat since they break way out. These shoals can hold a good-sized swell; they break both ways, a good spot in a big hurricane. Can break on S swells and handles N winds.
North Assateague is a wildlife sanctuary and inaccessible by land. You need to paddle across the inlet from Ocean City’s fishing harbor, but strong currents and boat traffic can make this paddle hazardous. Consistent and rarely crowded. No pollution, some sea-lice.
