Thorli Beach surf guide

Surf: Long crescent of black sand with consistent peaks appearing on any swell with S in it. Can get big, hollow and heavy with swirling currents and lots of duck-diving. There can be a protected righthander beside the harbour wall in the western corner. Directions: Take highway one out of reykjavík. About 15 minutes out of reykjavik you make a right turn to Thorlakshofn. Drive that road for another 15-20 minutes to Thorlakshofn. Coming to thorlakshofn from Reykjavik turn left to go to Selfoss just before arriving in thorlakshofn. Drive for 2-3 minutes and turn right on a dirtpath that leads to the beach. Environment: Consistent but rarely worth the effort. Beautiful, isolated location that attracts the odd Icelandic beach bum and his family on good weather days.
