Torö Stenstrand is a popular surf spot located about 70 kilometers south of Stockholm, Sweden. This location has a vibrant surfing scene and hosts an annual national surf competition, which has been taking place since 1991. It’s known for attracting a large number of surfers, especially on good days when you can see around 50 to 60 surfers in the water.
The surf here features several peaks that break over an uneven reef, providing both left and right-hand waves. The optimal swell direction is Southeast, with reliable conditions also coming from the Southwest. The spot can handle wave sizes starting from about 0.3 meters (1 ft) and is capable of delivering powerful waves, especially in the Baltic region. It works best when the wind is blowing from the Northwest, and it’s suitable for surfers of all abilities, including beginners. You’ll find the best surfing conditions during low to mid to high tide.
As the rocky reef has been shifting closer to the shore over time, the overall wave heights have been decreasing. However, the spot remains a strong choice when the wind is blowing over 10 m/sec from the Southeast or Southwest. If you’re looking to catch some waves in Sweden, Torö Stenstrand is one of the top spots to check out.
