Torquay - Fishos is a surf spot located near the boat launching ramp at Torquay, which is known for being the surfing capital of Victoria. This area provides a mix of reef and sand breaks that can appeal to intermediate surfers looking to catch some waves. The scene here can be a bit crowded when conditions are good, so be prepared for a bit of company in the water.
The spot really shines with southeast and southwest swells, especially when they come from the south. It handles swell sizes of around 3 ft (about 1 meter) well. The waves tend to break over uneven reef and sand, with the more common wave direction being right. For the best experience, try to hit it when the wind is coming from the northwest and during mid to high tides; this is when the waves tend to shape up nicely.
Fishos generally attracts intermediate surfers looking for a manageable challenge without the heaviness of some of the more advanced spots around. Although it can be a bit inconsistent, when the conditions align, it provides a solid chance for a decent ride. Just remember, it might get busy, so keep your head on a swivel out there.
