Tramore - Strand surf guide
Surf: The centre of surfing in SE Ireland boasting a large surf club and a 5km stretch of beach. Average beachbreak peaks that occasionally turn on with the elusive NE offshore. Usually better at higher tides.
Access: Most polluted spot in Ireland, water quality really poor.
Environment: Shops, surf schools and plenty of facilities. Beachfront parking is restricted in summer. Very poor water quality from towns stormwater outfall.
Surf: General: Long strand of inconsistent beachbreak. Suitable for all abilities and surfable at all tides.
Tides: Low to mid
Size: Knee to head high.
Wind: N-NE
Swell: S-SW
Bottom: Sand. Some rocks poking up as the sand gets washed away in the winter.
Paddling: If it's bigger you can feel the burn.
Spot Rating: Fun waves sometimes but never much power.
Access: Park in lot then walk over promenade.
Crowds: Crowd Factor: Not a factor.
Local Vibe: Family friendly waves and town. Large surf scene. Many very good surfers from here.
Environment: Occasional beach closures due to poor water quality. Avoid after heavy rains.
Hazards: Rips especially as it gets bigger. Lifeguard during summer season. Never surf alone.
Season: Breaks all year round but will go flat in the summer.
