Turtle Bay - WA surf guide

Turtle Bay is located at the northern tip of Dirk Hartog Island in Western Australia. It's one of the more remote surf spots, accessible primarily by boat or light plane from Denham. The area is known for its natural beauty and rugged environment, making it a unique destination for surfers who are willing to make the trek. While the spot is not heavily commercialized, it offers a chance to experience some local surf away from the crowds.

The surf here is mostly a long, workable left wave that breaks over live coral. It works best with a south to southwest swell and can handle sizes up to 3 feet (about 0.9 meters). The ideal wind direction is from the southeast, and you can catch good waves at low, mid, or high tide. However, keep in mind that this spot is best suited for expert surfers, as the rips beside the coral reef can be strong and challenging.

When planning a trip, note that Turtle Bay can get quite remote, so it's advisable to be well-prepared. The waves can be fun, but surfers should be experienced in dealing with the unique conditions present here, as well as the surroundings of Shark Bay. Make sure to keep your equipment handy as the remote nature of the area means you won't find many resources nearby.
