Surf Point - WA surf guide

Surf Point in Western Australia is located at the southern tip of Dirk Hartog Island. This spot is known for its remote setting and can be a bit tricky to get to. It's not the most popular surfing destination, so you'll likely find fewer crowds. However, be warned that this break is best suited for hardcore surfers due to the challenging access and conditions.

The surf here can offer some decent waves, especially when the swell is coming from the southwest. It handles swell sizes up to about 5 feet (1.5 meters) pretty well. Most of the waves break right over a live coral reef, so it's essential to be careful. The best condition for the surf is when the wind is coming from the northeast, and it's preferable to hit this spot during low to mid to high tide. Keep in mind that this break is definitely for experts; the long righthand barrels can be great, but bigger swells can cause it to close out across a large expanse of reef, making it hard to line up.

When planning your visit, remember that the strong rips in the channel can be dangerous, especially in sharky waters. It's a spot that demands respect and skill, so make sure you're prepared before you paddle out.
