About 20km (12mi) south of Laayoune lies Zbarat, a small village that’s pretty easy to get to, as it’s just off the main road. This spot features a decent right reef break that draws surfers looking for something different. Even though it’s not the most famous surf destination, it does have its loyal fans who come for the waves.
The waves here work best with a northwest swell, but you can catch some action with swells from the west and north as well. Zbarat can handle swell sizes starting from about 2ft (0.6m), making it suitable for intermediate surfers. The right-breaking waves do their thing over an uneven reef, so keep that in mind. If you’re checking the wind, northeast is the way to go, and you can expect good conditions across low, mid, and high tide.
While Zbarat isn’t packed with locals or tourists, the laid-back vibe and the simplicity of the spot can be refreshing. It’s a great option if you’re looking to escape the crowds and just enjoy some quality surf time.
